Stepping Up for Jesus

If you listen to a lot of Christian leaders, Bill Hybels from Willow Creek Community Church comes to mind, they talk about an “Acts 2 Church,” and how it’s their goal for their congregations to become such a church. What they are referring to is found in the following verses:

All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.

A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders…They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity— all the while praising God…

Acts 2:42-47 (NLT)

As you see in the verses, there are four activities (teaching, fellowship, sharing meals, and prayer) that that the early church did together with great devotion, and through those activities their faith grew by leaps and bounds, and “each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.” (verse 47)

These early Christians experienced great joy in a time of great difficulty. I challenge you to consider, are you experiencing great joy? How does your life compare to the lives of the people of the Acts 2 Church? Which activity, or activities, do you want to see a bit of personal growth in?

Ladies, I encourage you to join us at the Sweet Life CafĂ© Women’s Retreat to begin working on that activity. Ladies and gentlemen both, I highly recommend joining a GraceGroup (GraceLink begins Easter Sunday), after all, life is not meant to be lived alone.

Stepping up with you in His strength!

At Grace, one of my responsibilities is to publish a weekly article in our e-newsletter, GraceNotes, about discipleship. Specifically, about the various components of our Discipleship Pathway and how a person could journey along it. This is my most recent article.
