Serving All - Starting Point

Pathway Points

Stepping Up for Jesus

We’re continuing our journey today along Grace Church’s Discipleship Pathway. We spent the last three weeks looking at the foundations of the Pathway, the Love God part. This week let’s move on to the Serve All part. Remember, the descriptions are not meant to be exhaustive (or judgmental); they are intended for self-evaluation, and, with the Holy Spirit’s guidance, to help you better understand what each step on the Pathway looks like in the life of a believer.

While loving God is the foundation of discipleship, serving is the overflow of that love. At Grace, one of the ways that we facilitate service is through the various activities we offer. It may not seem like it, but you’re serving just by attending. You’re serving the leaders by providing an audience that requires them to clarify their thinking. You’re serving the other participants by listening to them and offering spirit-led conversation and praying with and for them.

Here are some possibilities if you’re just starting out:

·        Participate in a workshop, seminar, or special event: here’s one for July, Dinner & a Movie—The Rookie.

·        Begin to take part in spiritual practices like prayer: check out our sermon series from right before Easter, The Prayers of Jesus.

·        Begin to take part in spiritual practices like Bible reading. This is my favorite Bible app (you can even access it on your desktop or laptop computer). It has Bible reading plans as short as 3 days and as long as a year in a variety of topics. Don’t forget to “friend” me so that I can encourage you as you work your way through your plan!

Stepping up with you in His strength!

At Grace, one of my responsibilities is to publish a weekly article in our e-newsletter, GraceNotes, about discipleship. Specifically, about the various components of our Discipleship Pathway and how a person could journey along it. This is my most recent article.
